Light After the Storm Program

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Blue Heart Sanctuary has extended its mission of healing and support to those on the front lines of disaster recovery and those directly impacted by the storm. Our Light After the Storm Program is designed to provide relief workers, volunteers, and affected individuals with a space for rest, restoration, and emotional healing.

Support for Volunteers & Relief Workers

The work of disaster relief is physically and emotionally demanding, often leaving volunteers and frontline workers depleted. To honor their dedication, we offer safe and peaceful accommodations at the Sanctuary, allowing them to rest and recharge amidst nature and the healing presence of animals. Volunteers also have the opportunity to participate in respite retreats, where they can engage in mindfulness practices, nature walks, and time with our rescued animals—helping them process their experiences, prevent burnout, and reconnect with a sense of purpose.

Retreats for Hurricane-Impacted Individuals & Families

For those who have suffered loss due to Hurricane Helene, we provide healing retreats that offer a gentle space for recovery and renewal. These retreats incorporate therapeutic activities, including:

Day Camps for Children Coping with Grief & Trauma

Children are often the most vulnerable in times of disaster. To help them navigate their emotions in a safe and supportive way, Blue Heart Sanctuary offers day camps designed to help kids process grief and trauma through:

Animal interaction and care, fostering emotional connection and stability

Creative arts and storytelling to encourage self-expression

Play-based therapy and nature activities that provide a sense of safety and joy

Gentle movement and mindfulness practices to ease anxiety and fear

Through these camps, children learn healthy coping mechanisms while surrounded by kindness, compassion, and the reassuring presence of animals.

Light After the Storm Program

At Blue Heart Sanctuary, we recognize that healing is not just about rebuilding structures—it’s about rebuilding spirits. Through our Light After the Storm Program, we strive to create a space of rest, support, and transformation for those who have given so much and those who have lost so much. In the face of disaster, we believe in the power of love, connection, and the sanctuary of peace.
